Music in the Classroom with the National Symphony Orchestra at the National Concert Hall. February to April 2024

David Brophy conducts Primary School Musical Adventures: Our Amazing World, Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate Music Guide concerts presented by Jessie Grimes.

Music in the Classroom returns to the National Concert Hall with bespoke concert presentations for primary school children aged 8-12, Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate music students. Six daytime concerts, all conducted by David Brophy and presented by Jessie Grimes, will take place in the February to April 2024.

The first concerts on Tuesday 20 February are aimed towards primary school children aged 8-12. Expect a musical adventure through the origins of life from dinosaurs to our ancestors to the world we live in today! The programme will include pieces such as John William’s Jurassic Park Theme, Prokofiev’s Montague’s and Capulets from his Romeo & Juliet Suite and many more…there will an opportunity for the whole audience to join in with Jessie and the orchestra!

The concert built around the Junior Cycle Music Learning Outcomes takes place on Tuesday 5 March, and will explore how live music can provoke emotion, change mood, and illustrate a scene with the National Symphony Orchestra. Can live music be written in response to stimulus? Is orchestration affected by different instrument techniques? Can music depict a character?

On Tuesday 16th April Jessie Grimes and David Brophy will once again take the stage to guide leaving certificate students through Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture with a step-by-step guide highlighting key themes and sections and presented with musical illustrations. The concert will conclude with a full orchestral performance of the work.
