Hailed as “a symbol of resilience” and “artistic excellence” (The Guardian), the internationally acclaimed Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra make a welcome return to open the National Concert Hall’s cultural programme for Ireland’s 2026 Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Established as a “battalion of culture” (The Guardian) by Canadian-Ukrainian conductor Keri-Lynn Wilson in 2022, the orchestra perform two stunning works: Bohdana Frolyak’s Gloria and Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder, with soprano Julia Kleiter, a singer praised for her “luminous, effortless tone” (Financial Times). A set of five intimate songs based on the poems by Friedrich Rückert, Mahler’s work is noted for its lyrical richness, introspection, and delicate orchestration.
Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 brings the evening to an end in exhilarating style, its rhythmic vitality offering a powerful sense of unity and hope.
This concert is presented by NCH in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as part of the Cultural Programme for Ireland’s 2026 Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
