Statement from The Bothy Band
Founder member of the Bothy Band, Dónal Lunny, has recently undergone major surgery that will require a lengthy recuperation. This will prevent the Bothy Band from fulfilling all concerts planned for the summer and autumn of 2024.

We are mindful of the many people who were looking forward to the band's performances at the National Concert Hall. The members of The Bothy Band very much regret that we are obliged to cancel all concerts for 2024 as the recovery of Dónal comes first.

We would request that people respect Dónal's privacy as he works towards recovery.

Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Matt Molloy, Paddy Keenan, Kevin Burke, Paddy Glackin, Seán Óg Graham.

The Bothy Band stand out as perhaps the most influential and revered of all the many ensembles who revolutionised the playing of traditional music in recent generations.

For the first time since 1979, Donal Lunny (bouzouki), Tríona ní Dhomhnaill (keyboards), Matt Molloy (flute), Paddy Keenan (uilleann pipes, low whistle), Paddy Glackin (fiddle), Kevin Burke (fiddle) come together to perform their first public concerts as The Bothy Band. They are joined by Seán Óg Graham on guitar.

Between 1975 to 1979 the band were to release four albums all of which are regarded as classics of their type. Incendiary live performances driven by a front line of fiddle, pipes and flute underpinned by the powerhouse rhythm section Mícheál Ó Domhnaill (guitar and vocals), Tríona Ni Dhomhnaill ((clavichord and vocals) and Donal Lunny (bouzouki) cemented their reputation as perhaps the most innovative and exciting combinations to play traditional music from these islands.

Founder member, Mícheál Ó Domhnaill died in 2006 and Tommy Peoples who played fiddle on the bands first recording died five years ago.
