Bernstein Symphonic Dances from West Side Story
Join us for West Side Story, a modern musical retelling of friendship, rivalry, and love, inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and set in the busy streets of 1950s New York. Two rival teenage gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, don’t get along, but everything changes when Tony (a former Jet) and Maria (sister of the Shark leader) meet and fall in love. What happens next is full of big emotions, unforgettable music, and powerful moments.
Led by presenter and storyteller Jessie Grimes, the NCH Discover Artist-in-Residence, this fun and interactive concert is specially designed for children aged 6 and up. You’ll hear how the orchestra tells the story through music, from energetic dance rhythms to bold brass sounds and beautiful, sweeping melodies by Leonard Bernstein.
With live music, playful storytelling, and amazing performances by National Symphony Orchestra Ireland, this relaxed and Autism Friendly concert is a fantastic way to experience music up close.
Arrive from 11.30am for free, pre-concert fun activities, designed to engage children and spark their imagination before the concert begins.
