Mozart Piano Concerto No. 23
Beethoven Symphony No. 4

Inspired by Beethoven, Beneath the Shadows by Irish composer Judith Ring will have its world premiere, marking Beethoven’s 200th anniversary celebration at the National Concert Hall. In the composer’s words the piece “reflects Beethoven’s emotional journey” over his lifetime in which he moved “through states of yearning, fear of impending deafness, frustration, anger, and sorrow” before arriving at a place “of passion, power, beauty, and strength” through crea-tivity.

Rising star pianist Marie-Ange Nguci takes centre stage in Mozart’s much-loved Piano Concerto No. 23,  a piece that is both poignant and exuberant. A frequent guest at many of the world’s most renowned concert halls, including the Vienna Musikverein, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Tokyo Suntory Hall, and the Philharmonie de Paris, Nguci has established herself as one of the leading pianists of her generation, earning widespread acclaim as a “remarkably precocious pianist” and “the real deal”(America’s Voice for Classical Music).

On the podium, dynamic Bulgarian conductor Delyana Lazarova leads the orchestra in Beethoven’s radiant Fourth Symphony, a work that is cheerful, energetic, brimming with wit, with an irresistible momentum. As BBC Music Magazine notes, it represents “Beethoven’s coming of age as a symphonist… a symphony that makes you feel good to be alive.”

The concert forms part of Beethoven’s 200th anniversary celebrations at the National Concert Hall.
