The National Concert Hall (NCH) is proud to announce its Spring/Summer 2026 Classical Season, an ambitious programme of more than 40 concerts, placing National Symphony Orchestra Ireland (NSOI) at its heart, complimented by an International Orchestras & Recitals series and all-embracing Discover programme of orchestral classics for families and young people. Audiences can look forward to orchestral landmarks, daring new works, unforgettable recitals, immersive film screenings, programmes for young people and schools — all part of the NCH mission to bring world-class music to everyone.
Season Highlights
- Alexander Shelley’s inaugural season as National Symphony Orchestra Ireland Principal Conductor Designate, with Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri and returning later with Rachmaninov, John Adams, and Stravinsky’s The Firebird with newly commissioned visuals.
- World-class visiting artists and ensembles: Sir Simon Rattle with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, violinist Hilary Hahn in recital, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine with Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto and Eroica Symphony, pianist Kirill Gerstein and more.
- Landmark premieres and commissions: Six Irish premieres by Philip Glass, Anselm McDonnell’s Cello Concerto Hostile Summits and Siobhán Cleary’s Canto (both NSOI commission), Irish premieres of works by Gabriela Ortiz, Jennifer Higdon, Julia Wolfe and Gerald Barry’s Salome for New Music Dublin.
- Celebrated soloists and conductors: violinist Maxim Vengerov, pianists Louis Lortie, Barry Douglas, John O’Conor, violinist Baiba Skride, soprano Celine Byrne, vocalist Angélique Kidjo & pianist Maki Namekawa with Dennis Russell Davies for Philip Glass Explored.
- Immersive and family programmes: Jessie Grimes’ Symphony Shorts for families, orchestral film screenings (E.T., The Snail and the Whale, Room on the Broom) and Discover concerts including The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra and Peter and the Wolf with shadow puppetry.
National Symphony Orchestra Ireland Highlights
- Alexander Shelley begins his tenure as Principal Conductor Designate with the NSOI with two powerful concerts: Schumann’s rarely performed Das Paradies und die Peri with National Symphony Chorus Ireland under David Young, sopranos Nardus Williams and Anna Devin, mezzo-soprano Avery Amerau, tenor Robin Tritschler and baritone Mark Stone (13 Feb).He later returns with a bold juxtaposition of John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine, Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3 starring pianist Jaeden Izik-Dzurko and Stravinsky’s The Firebird with new visuals commissioned in partnership with Pacific Symphony and Artis-Naples (13 March)
- Peter Whelan, newly appointed NSOI Artistic Partner, returns to lead concerts featuring works by Joseph Bologne, Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3 with Ellinor D’Melon, Mendelssohn’s ‘Scottish’ Symphony (23 Jan) and later with Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra’s Principal Clarinettist Carlos Ferreira in Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 1 and more (24 April).
- New Year’s Day Gala (1 Jan) with conductor Tom Fetherstonhaugh and soprano Ava Dodd in timeless Viennese classics by Strauss, Lehár and Korngold.
- World premiere performances of new works by four Composer Lab participants under the baton of Gavin Maloney (20 Jan).
- Pianist Barry Douglas in Shostakovich’s Concerto for Piano, Trumpet & Strings (16 Jan) with Darren Moore (trumpet) led by conductor Anna Sułkowska-Migoń.
- Anselm McDonnell’s first Cello Concerto, Hostile Summits (World Premiere and NSOI Commission, 30 Jan) with cello soloist Martin Johnson and conductor Ryan McAdams.
- Conductor Diego Matheuz with French pianist Mirabelle Kajenjeri for Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major and the Irish premiere of Kauyumari by leading Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz (6 Feb)
- Celine Byrne performs Richard Strauss’s masterpiece Four Last Songs (20 Feb) with conductor Lio Kuokman, alongside the Irish premiere of Jennifer Higdon’s blue cathedral, and more.
- Maxim Vengerov returns for Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto (27 Feb), paired with works by Sibelius and Bartók and a Concerto Masterclass (28 Feb).
- Acclaimed ‘model Chopinist’, pianist Louis Lortie performs Chopin’s Piano Concert No. 1 under the baton of Jean-Luc Tingaud (20 March).
- Shaun Davey’s epic The Brendan Voyage with uilleann piper Mark Redmond and in Wexford and Galway (26 & 28 March).
- Czech music specialist Jiří Rožeň and National Symphony Chorus Ireland under David Young with guests perform Dvořák’s Stabat Mater for Good Friday (26 April)
- Irish premiere of Gerald Barry’s Salome (17 April) in concert as part of New Music Dublin with conductor Jérôme Kuhn and a world class cast of soloists.
- Siobhán Cleary’s Canto (World Premiere and NSOI commission, 8 May) with violinist Darragh Morgan and conductor Jessica Cottis.
- John O’Conor takes centre stage for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1 with renowned conductor Lina Gonzáles-Granados (15 May).
- Mahler’s majestic Symphony No. 5 (29 May) conducted by Jonas Alber, and Britten’s Violin Concerto featuring violinist Baiba Skride.
- Philip Glass Explored: Dennis Russell Davies leads six Irish premieres by Glass to include excerpts from Akhnaten, Symphony No. 8, and Ifè Songs, composed for and featuring vocalist Angélique Kidjo (5 June) and Mishima Piano Concerto, alongside The Light and the Interlude from The Voyage (6 June) with pianist Maki Namekawa.
- Season finale (19 June): Stephanie Childress leads a performance of works by two Pulitzer Prize-winners - Julia Wolfe’s Pretty (Irish Premiere) and John Adams’ choral symphony Harmonium with National Symphony Chorus Ireland, alongside Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with Nicolas Namoradze.
International Orchestras & Recitals
- Irish Chamber Orchestra with Abel Selaocoe, Bernhard Schimpelsberger percussion and Alan Keary bass (5 Feb): a dazzling fusion of Western classical, African song, and improvisation in works by Janáček, Sibelius, Debussy and Selaocoe’s own compositions.
- ‘The most versatile of piano virtuosos’ Kirill Gerstein returns (19 Feb) with a compelling recital of romantic repertoire to include Liszt’s Three Petrarch Sonnets and Brahms’ Piano Sonata No. 3.
- National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (23 Mar) led by Volodymyr Sirenko with celebrated pianist Maria Pukhlianko, perform Beethoven’s Emperor Piano Concerto and Eroica Symphony, alongside works by Delius.
Three-time Grammy Award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn returns with pianist Tom Poster (14 May) for masterworks by Lili Boulanger, Ravel, Debussy, Fauré, and Irish premieres by Bun-Ching Lam and five-time Grammy Award-winner Scott Tixier. - Sir Simon Rattle leads the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (11 June) in Berlioz’s Harold in Italy with violist Timothy Ridout and the tempestuous Symphonie fantastique.
For Families and Young Audiences
- Jessie Grimes, NCH Discover Artist-in-Residence, presents Symphony Shorts and exploration of popular symphonic works for younger audiences; Music in the Classroom (Primary & Junior Cycle), and interactive Discover family concerts including Peter and the Wolf with shadow puppetry, The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra under the baton of Karen Ní Bhroin and Orchestral Escapades featuring a thrilling mix of orchestral masterpieces for young children.
- NSOI brings film screenings in concert of Room on the Broom and The Snail and the Whale (8 Feb) led by conductor David Brophy, and a spectacular live orchestral performance of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (30 Apr & 1 May) led by Jessica Cottis.

The National Concert Hall (NCH) is Ireland’s national cultural institution for music, proudly serving the Irish public since it opened in 1981 through live music performances and significant educational and cultural programmes. - Lascainí suas le 25% ar Mhargadh Pacáiste.
- Lascaine suas le 25% ar 18 + ceolchoirmeacha, nó 10% ar cheolchoirmeacha aonair do chairde NCH .
- Lascaine do Ghrúpaí ar fáil ag 10% do thicéid 10-39 agus 20% do 40+
- Ticéid €10 do mhic léinn (faoi réir iad a bheith ar fáil).
- Ticéid saor in aisce do leanaí (faoi 18) le ticéad lánphraghais do dhaoine fásta ar imeachtaí roghnaithe.

MAIDIR LEIS AN gCEOLÁRAS NÁISIÚNTA
Is é an Ceoláras Náisiúnta (NCH) institiúid chultúrtha náisiúnta ceoil na hÉireann, agus tá sí ag freastal go bródúil ar phobal na hÉireann ó osclaíodh í i 1981 trí léirithe ceoil beo agus cláir shuntasacha oideachais agus cultúrtha. Tá NCH lonnaithe i gcroílár lár chathair Bhaile Átha Cliath, in aice le Gairdíní pictiúrtha Uíbh Eachach, agus tá bród ar NCH as ár gCeolfhoireann Shiansach Náisiúnta Éireann, chomh maith le háit chónaithe a chur ar fáil do réimse eagraíochtaí ceoil eile lena n-áirítear Chamber Choir Ireland, Ceolfhoireann Bharócach na hÉireann, Music Network, Crash Ensemble agus Music Generation. Tá athfhorbairt mhór ar na saoráidí uile á pleanáil aige faoi láthair mar chuid den Phlean Forbartha Náisiúnta agus de Thionscadal Éireann 2040.
