NCH Season Spring/Summer 2026 Pre-Concert Talks

Join us before selected concerts in the NCH Spring Summer Classical Season to hear from some of the wonderful artists performing in the season as well as the opportunity to delve deeper into the programme and repertoire for the performances.

Pre-Concert Talks take place in the Kevin Barry Recital Room and are free for ticketholders. 

Concert: NSOI: Barry Douglas plays Shostakovich

Friday 16th January, 6.15pm

Join Darren Moore, principal trumpet with National Symphony Orchestra Ireland, as he discusses his musical journey and explores this evening’s iconic repertoire. Chairing the discussion will be David Collins, Professor of Trumpet at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.


Concert: NSOI: Peter Whelan conducts Mendelssohn’s ‘Scottish’

Friday 23rd January, 6.15pm

We are delighted to be joined by NSOI Artistic Partner Peter Whelan, in conversation ahead of his podium appearance this evening. The discussion will be chaired by Sinead Doyle, Marketing & PR Manager at the National Concert Hall


Concert: NSOI: Tchaikovsky’s ‘Pathétique’ & Anselm McDonnell's Hostile Summits

Friday 30th January, 6.15pm

Cellist Martin Johnson and composer Anselm McDonnell shall discuss their musical journeys and McDonnell's new composition. Chairing the discussion will be Siân Cunningham, CEO of Crash Ensemble.


Concert: NSOI: Ravel with Mirabelle Kajenjeri

Friday 6th February, 6.15pm

Join Dr. Nicole Grimes, Associate Professor in Music at Trinity College Dublin, as she shares her insights on the work of women composers. Dr. Grimes presents this work as part of the public engagement activities for The Expansive Canvas (www.expansivecanvas.com).

Thursday 19th February, 6.45pm

Réamonn Keary, Professor of Piano at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, will explore the evening’s fascinating repertoire of Liszt and Brahms.


Concert: NSOI: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial in Concert

Thursday 30th April, 6.15pm

Join Dr. Conor Power, Teaching Fellow in Music Theory and Performance at UCD School of Music, as he dives into the wonderful world of John Williams, discussing the famous E.T. score.
