Kurt Weill on Broadway

Star of the West End, Broadway, renowned vocalist Kim Criswell joins pianist Niall Kinsella for an afternoon concert of Kurt Weill most beloved and alluring Broadway songs.

Born in Germany, Kurt Weill became a trailblazer on Broadway after emigrating to the United States, reshaping the sound and ambition of musical theatre. His bold, emotionally direct music helped pave the way for the creative breakthroughs of the 1940s, including the era of Rodgers and Hammerstein, with many of his songs becoming classics of the American Songbook. Featuring unforgettable songs such as ‘September Song’, ‘Mack the Knife’, ‘Here I’ll Stay’, ‘Lost in the Stars’, and ‘My Ship’, the Kurt Weill on Broadway draws from landmark shows including One Touch of Venus, Lady in the Dark, Street Scene, Knickerbocker Holiday, Lost in the Stars and The Threepenny Opera.

Often described as a musical theatre legend, Kim Criswell’s career has taken her from Broadway to the West End to the greatest concert stages and opera houses of the world, resulting in a most unusual career path unmatched by any other singer, all the while specializing in the classic American theatre songbook. Conductor and pianist Niall Kinsella has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting Irish musicians of his generation and has performed across Europe as a song-recitalist in repertoire ranging from Schubert lieder to the Great American Songbook.

"In concert she commands the gamut of styles - from sophisticated cabaret to torch-song schmaltz - with superb musicianship and technique, as well as an imaginative attention to the text that many opera stars would do well to emulate."
