“If you feel like singing, do sing an Irish song” is how presenter, Leo Maguire, would finish each programme before playing us out with The Bold Fenian Men March Medley. The Walton’s music show was the longest sponsored programme on RTE Radio. It started way back in 1953 when the station was simply called Radio Eireann, and was running well into the 80s. When Irish families dragged themselves out of bed each Saturday morning, the Walton’s Radio Programme would be playing on the wireless when they got downstairs. Featuring the great Irish stars of the day, like Delia Murphy, Joe Lynch, Austin Gaffney (uncle of Damian Smith!), the show was a weekly staple in every Irish household. Join the Singalong Songbook team as they focus their spotlight on this unique Irish story and treat you to a feast of Irish classic singalong songs. There’ll be so much nostalgia, you’ll be tripping over memories.
