This unique concert event is the culmination of a year-long collaboration between composers and performers in Java and Ireland.

The premiere performance of Archipelago took place at the Yogyakarta Festival in Java in December 2025, and we are thrilled to present it here in Ireland for the first time.

Composers and gamelan directors, Anon Suneko (Java) and Peter Moran (Ireland), have been working with two great masters of traditional Irish music, Mark Redmond and Paddy Glackin over the past year. Together with up-and-coming young composer Viktória Šinkarová, the group has devised a programme of original compositions and arrangements, exploring the intersection of the melodies, modes and rhythms of Irish and Javanese music.

This concert will be in two halves. The first half will be a showcase of traditional Irish music performed by the 20-piece UCD Trad Group. The second half will be the Irish premiere of Archipelago, performed by the UCD Gamelan Orchestra.

And watch out for the album release of Archipelago which will be forthcoming in the summer of 2026!
