NCH Gamelan Orchestra 10th Anniversary Concert / CD Launch

NCH Gamelan Orchestra
Dr. Peter Moran, Director
with special guest
Byron Wallen (trumpet)

Celebrating 10 years since His Royal Highness the Sultan of Yogyakarta came to Dublin to present the Irish people with the gift of this beautiful collection of Indonesian instruments, the NCH Gamelan Orchestra is proud to commemorate this occasion with the launch of its debut CD.

Performing over two nights, the ensemble presents a programme ranging from classical gamelan repertoire, to popular Javanese folk songs, to contemporary works for gamelan and trumpet.

Joining them on this very special occasion is the jazz trumpet legend Byron Wallen, who returns to the NCH following his recent Irish tour with his own gamelan-fusion ensemble.

The NCH Gamelan Orchestra is an ensemble of bronze gongs, bamboo flutes, plucked strings, and Indonesian percussion instruments and voices. The NCH Gamelan can be found on Facebook, Instagram, and on YouTube, where their videos have been watched over 100,000 times.

Byron Wallen is widely recognised as a seminal figure in world jazz, playing alongside legendary musicians such as George Benson, Chaka Khan, Hugh Masekela, Courtney Pine, Mulatu Astatke, Style Council, and King Sunny Ade.
