Health & Harmony

At the National Concert Hall, we believe anyone in Ireland living with dementia should have the opportunity to experience and benefit from listening to live music.

The Health & Harmony programme lifts our clients' spirits and brings them on a journey of joy, which is fantastic for those who have found themselves on such a difficult journey without knowing why - A Dementia care centre manager

We work with Alzheimer’s day and respite care centres to bring live music to their patients. We run informal concerts, where joining in to sing along, or perform for the group is encouraged.

Music improves the quality of life for those living with dementia, and it has been shown to promote communication between carers and patients, have a positive effect on agitated behaviour, reduce anxiety and aggression and aid in restoring cognitive and motor function.

Our programme easily integrates with traditional dementia management methods and routines of day-care centres and respite homes, while bringing a range of benefits to those living with dementia, their families and carers.

In partnership with Alzheimer’s Ireland, we conducted research on the effects of our programme, and confirmed the positive impact of live music performance and engagement on those living with dementia, and their families and carers.
