A lunchtime at the opera with the exciting young talent of soprano Deirdre Higgins and rising star conductor Kristian Sallinen is not to be missed. Favourite arias by Offenbach, Mozart (The Marriage of Figaro’s beseeching ‘Porgi amor’) and Puccini (the exquisite ‘O mio babbino caro’) are heard alongside three orchestral showpieces including rousing Overtures by Verdi and Wagner, and Puccini’s aching Intermezzo from Manon Lescaut completing the bill.
