The National Symphony Chorus is one of the finest large choirs in the country, and regularly gives performances of symphonic choral repertoire with the National Symphony Orchestra, broadcast on RTÉ lyric fm.
For this special performance in the intimate surroundings of Christ Church Cathedral, they will be exploring smaller scale music by composers well-known for their orchestral output: a selection of Anton Bruckner’s motets (themselves tiny symphonic compositions), Lili Boulanger’s wonderful and little-known music for choir and piano, two delightful and unusual pieces by French master Gabriel Fauré, and one of the great jewels of 20th Century Irish a cappella choir music, C.V. Stanford’s Magnificat for Double Choir. This concert marks the centenary of the deaths of both Stanford and Fauré, as well the two hundred year anniversary of Bruckner’s birth.

The huge climax at the end was spine-tingling in its effect and so too was the soft, death-like ending, dissolving into silence. (review Sea Symphony, Nov 2023)
