Our festival of new traditional and folk music pays tribute to Tim Robinson with a newly commissioned project.
This special event centres on a new commission for Crash Ensemble by composer and Robinson collaborator Susan Stenger and features contributions from poet Moya Cannon, writer Fintan O’Toole, performer Olwen Fouéré, singers Ye Vagabonds and Treasa Ní Mhiolláin & Joe Heaney biographer Lillis Ó’Laoire and film director Pat Collins.
Tim Robinson was a hugely influential writer, artist and cartographer who made a lifetime study of the Aran Islands, the Burren and Connemara. In his two-volume Stones of Aran and his Connemara trilogy, Robinson chronicled his time walking the land and gathering material for his extraordinary maps. Observing patterns of rock, wind and water opened his writing to the fractal dimensions of the inlet, the cove, the cliff and the darkening pool.
Our Time In Space evokes Robinson’s concept of the 'Connemara fractal’ and explores its intersection with the intricate contours of sean-nós singing and landscape.
