Holst The Planets

From the inner world of the imagination to the outer reaches of space.

Joe Chindamo’s ‘highly energetic – even quite wild at times – and virtuosic’ trombone concerto Ligeia boldly probes gothic fiction and psychology with London Symphony Orchestra principal Peter Moore the soloist in its European premiere.

Lili Boulanger’s gorgeous depiction of a Spring morning, D’un matin de printemps is a prelude to Holst’s The Planets, one of the great orchestral showpieces, brimming over with the most majestic and awe-inspiring music.

Commissioned by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra for its principal trombone, Colin Prichard, Ligeia received its premiere with Colin and the ASO under Brad Cohen at the Adelaide Town Hall on 14th May 2022.
