Valentin Silvestrov String Quartet No. 3
Ukrainian composer, now living in Germany, Silvestrov has been described as ‘a quasi-superstar of contemporary music’. His String Quartet No. 3 (written in 2011) is a piece that is said to ‘convey the composer’s enthusiasm for Ireland, the historical fate of which reminds him of his native country of Ukraine’. Indeed, the composer credits Éamonn Quinn of Louth Contemporary Music Society with giving him the ‘impulse and motivation to bring this piece to life’.
