Carole King’s Tapestry to be interpreted by leading Irish artists in Art of the Song at the National Concert Hall

Cathy Davey, Mary Coughlan, Jennifer Evans, Lost Brothers and Bronagh Gallagher

Following its sell-out debut in 2014, Art of the Song returns Friday 17 July to the National Concert Hall with new interpretations by leading Irish artists of Carole King’s Tapestry to include Mary Coughlan, Cathy Davey, Jennifer Evans, Lost Brothers and Bronagh Gallagher.

Songs like the hits It's Too Late and I Feel the Earth Move, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman will take on added resonance when delivered with the warm, compelling voices of these leading Irish artists offering audiences new versions of well-known songs from one of the best-selling albums of all time.

Carole King’s Tapestry sold 25 million copies worldwide making it one of the most successful albums in pop music history. It is the second album by the American singer-songwriter which has been described as a “remarkably expressive and intimate record, a work of consummate craftsmanship. A light and airy work on its surface, occasionally skirting the boundaries of jazz, but also an intensely emotional record. The songs are confessional and direct; in its time it connected with listeners like few records before it, and it remains an illuminating experience decades later”.

Art of the Song is part of the National Concert Hall’s Summer Programme which also sees the welcome return of five-time Grammy Award-winning artist and 2012 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Mary Chapin Carpenter (11th July) for an intimate acoustic performance as part of her 2015 Acoustic World Tour. The tour marks Carpenter’s return to singing both timeless hits and deep cuts from her expansive and beloved 13-album catalogue. Carpenter will be joined on stage by long-time friends Jon Carroll (piano) and Austin Nevins (guitars) and supported by Bella Hardy.

And on 19th July, Irish audiences will be treated to An Evening with Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell playing tracks from their new album The Traveling Kind (Nonesuch). The Traveling Kind follows the long-time friends’ first duet album, 2013’s Old Yellow Moon, which won Best Americana Album at the 56th annual Grammy Awards.

Summer at the National Concert Hall is supported by the Irish Independent and Newstalk106 as media partners.
