A Freak in Burbank by Swedish composer Albert Schnelzer (composed in 2007 and inspired by a biography of American film director Tim Burton) will be the opening piece by the Swedish Chamber Orchestra for their National Concert Hall performance on 5 November at 8pm as part of the '15/'16 International Concert Series.
They will be led on stage by Danish conductor Thomas Dausgaard, before being joined by the famed Norwegian pianist Christian Ihle Hadland as featured guest soloist for Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 26 in D Major, K. 537 ‘Coronation’. The final piece of the programme will be one of the four great Brahms Symphonies - Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73 - an instant success when it was first performed in 1877.
The outstanding Swedish Chamber Orchestra made its USA and UK debuts (in 2004) at the London Proms and Lincoln Center’s ‘Mostly Mozart Festival’ and has been praised by The New York Times for a ‘distinctive and consistently vibrant sound’.
Their guest pianist for this concert, Christian Ihle Hadland, is a musician who following his recital debut at the Norwegian Opera in 2008, was hailed in the press as an artist who ‘shows himself as a unique musician whose artistry should be heard on the world’s concert stages’.
Since being appointed BBC New Generation Artist in 2011, Hadland has worked with all of the BBC orchestras, toured the UK in 2013 with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and later performed with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Vasily Petrenko at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall. His recording of the Mozart Piano Concertos with the Oslo Philharmonic (in 2013) was nominated for the Spellemann Prize, (the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammys).
The National Concert Hall’s International Concert Series 2015/2016 is sponsored by Dublin Port and supported by The Irish Times as print media partner.
