SUMMER
In honour of three of the world’s great and respected singer/songwriters, the National Concert Hall is delighted to announce the welcome return of Five-time Grammy Award-winning artist and 2012 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Mary Chapin Carpenter (11th July) for an intimate acoustic performance as part of her 2015 Acoustic World Tour. The tour marks Carpenter’s return to singing both timeless hits and deep cuts from her expansive and beloved 13-album catalogue. Carpenter will be joined on stage by long-time friends Jon Carroll (piano) and Austin Nevins (guitars).

On 17th July ‘Art of the Song’ returns with a tribute to Carole King’s Tapestry. Tapestry is the second album by singer-songwriter Carole King. It is one of the best-selling albums of all time, selling 25 million copies worldwide. Following its sell-out debut, Art of the Song returns with a new interpretation of this classic by leading Irish artists.

On 19th July, Irish audiences will be treated to An Evening with Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell playing tracks from their new album The Traveling Kind (Nonesuch). The Traveling Kind follows the long-time friends’ first duet album, 2013’s Old Yellow Moon, which won Best Americana Album at the 56th annual Grammy Awards. Time Out Magazine said ‘There are legendary country singers, and then there’s Emmylou: a breath-taking pinnacle of poise and elegance, and an artist who continues to innovate with every new release.’

ESB LIVE
ESB LIVE 2015 continues after the Kilfenora Ceili Band’s sell-out concert earlier this year, with Ladysmith Black Mambazo on 2 July. Nelson Mandela called Ladysmith “South Africa’s cultural ambassadors”. For over fifty years Ladysmith Black Mambazo have sung powerful, uplifting songs that emote the struggles and passion of South Africa marrying the intricate rhythms and harmonies of their native land to the sounds and sentiments of gospel music.

On 8 September three piece pop icon Saint Etienne will play through their first ever album Foxbase Alpha which was released in 1991 by newly founded Heavenly Recordings to become one of the defining records of the era – a sort of post-acid house/60s pop fusion that hit in the wake of the so-called Second Summer of Love. In celebration of Heavenly Recordings 25th Birthday Saint Etienne will be playing through that most treasured of debut albums in full for Irish audiences.

Bell X1 performs a very special acoustic show on 25th October 8pm in the final of the ESB LIVE 2015 concerts.  Paul, Dave and Dom have been busy recording their 7th album. This will be the follow up to ‘Chop Chop’ which was premiered at the National Concert Hall. It was their third Number 1 and their fourth consecutive album to be nominated for a Choice Music Prize. The acoustic shows will feature new songs along with favourites from their much-loved catalogue. Bell X1 embarked on their first acoustic tour in 2008 and over the last seven years through these stripped back performances; they have shown off a different, more intimate side.

ESB LIVE 2015 is supported by the Irish Independent and Today FM.
