National Concert Hall to host Innovative Homage to film maker David Lynch, the man behind Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet and more

On 18 November 2015 8pm the National Concert Hall will host a stellar line-up of local and international acts to perform a landmark musical homage to the legendary filmmaker and cult figure David Lynch for In Dreams; David Lynch Revisited.

Coming acclaimed from sold-out shows in the Barbican In Dreams: David Lynch Revisited offers Irish audiences the opportunity to immerse themselves into the mood and atmosphere of Lynch’s universe, with landmark instrumental tracks and exciting new versions of songs from his films.

A stellar cast of indie royalty come together to reinterpret these classic including Villagers front-man Conor O’Brien, Mick Harvey (ex-Bad Seeds), Sophia Brous (Brous), New York City based Cibo Matto, Jehnny Beth (Savages), Stealing Sheep, Kirin J Callinan and Stuart Staples (Tindersticks), all supported by a super band assembled and led by musical director David Coulter.

Lynch’s songbook includes original versions by Roy Orbison, David Bowie, Chris Isaak, Samuel Barber, Marilyn Manson and Elvis Presley. From the romantic songs of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, to the violence of iconic scenes in Blue Velvet, Wild At Heart or Lost Highway, sound is a vital component of David Lynch’s films – it’s in the wind, in the air, and in the people’s thoughts; his carefully chosen songs conveying his characters’ mental states.
His partnership with composer Angelo Badalamenti gave birth to one of the most celebrated soundtracks ever created for television – as viewers around the globe asked themselves ‘who killed Laura Palmer?’ to the ethereal tones of Julee Cruise’s voice.

“More than any other film director, David Lynch has always painted pictures with sound. He's miked up air vents to suggest terror, got his actors to rehearse to specific music, and made his songs as important as his characters – whether using original material (written with Angelo Badalamenti) or subverting antique pop numbers”. The Guardian

This unique event is part of the National Concert Hall’s Perspectives Series 2015 and is supported by Today FM and the Irish Independent.
