National Concert Hall announces winner of the Bernadette Greevy Bursary Award 2015

Limerick soprano, Roisín Walsh has just been announced as the winner of the Bernadette Greevy Bursary Award 2015 at the National Concert Hall. Each year the National Concert Hall invites singers to apply for the Bursary of €5,000 in honour of Irish mezzo-soprano Dr Bernadette Greevy. Roisín’s winning programme included Leist du Um Schonlein by Mahler, Handel’s Spectate, ion vi gourami (Rodelinda) and The Bay of Fundy by Fiona Linnane.

Roisín has just completed her training at the National Opera Studio, London comprising of residencies at Welsh National Opera and Scottish Opera.  Her vocal training includes an MMus in Vocal Performance, Advanced Certificate in Opera Studies and Artist Diploma from Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

Operatic experience includes Miss Wingrave Owen Wingrave Banff Centre for Performing Arts, Canada and the Guildhall School, The Witch Hansel and Gretel Sinfonia d'Amici, Marcellina Le Nozze di Figaro, Anita La Navarraise (Massenet) and Souer Mathilde Dialogues des Carmélites (Poulenc) all at the The Guildhall School.

Most recently Roisín was a member of the Glyndebourne Festival Chorus in summer 2014 performing in Eugene Onegin, Don Giovanni, La Traviata and performed Soprano 2 Frühlingszyklus (Luke Styles). Future engagements include Micaëla Carmen Opera Up Close, London, recital at St. Lawrence Jewry music festival, London and a recital at the Oxford Lieder Festival.

Dubliner Dr Bernadette Greevy achieved many great honours during her career including the Order of Merit of Malta and an Honorary Doctorate of Music, National University of Ireland. She was the founder and artistic director of the Anna Livia Dublin International Opera Festival, and further supported student singers through her masterclasses and work as Artist in Residence at the Dublin Institute of Technology.

Former beneficiaries of the Bernadette Greevy Bursary include Gemma Ní Bhriain, Jennifer Davis and Rachel Kelly.
