Programme for April-June Out NOW

The National Concert Hall’s programme for April to June 2016 boasts a vast range of events featuring Irish and international artists and ensembles in anniversary concerts, premieres, new commissions, fully-staged operas, movie screenings and more.

The National Concert Hall’s landmark projects for Ireland 2016 get underway with Imagining Home – seven unique concerts all inspired by the Irish proclamation (28th March-3rd April), Song for ‘16 live final (15th May) and Starboard Home (22nd June).

The National Concert Hall’s newly restored Kevin Barry Recital Room will also be officially launched in April with an inaugural recital series to be announced on March 11th.

Some highlights include:

  • Starboard Home: Paul Noonan, Cathy Davey, Jape, Declan O’Rourke, John Sheahan and more perform twelve new songs inspired by the river and port in this premiere concert, commissioned by Dublin Port (22nd June).
  • World premiere of The Tree of Life written and directed by Terrence Malick on Friday 3rd June. The live film score for the screening will be performed by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and choir (on sale 23rd March).
  • Song for ‘16 is an all-island song competition for primary and post-primary students to write and perform a song celebrating modern Ireland (live final 15th May).
  • NCH International Concert Series continues with Bach’s Mass in B minor performed by Bach Collegium Japan (12th April), Chinese pianist Yundi (21st April), violinist Maxim Vengerov (4th May) and Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra with pianist Barry Douglas (31st May).
  • Iconic composer Max Richter makes his first appearance in Ireland to perform The Blue Notebooks and extracts from Sleep (29th May).
  • Opera lovers can enjoy two fully-staged performances of Carmen and Tosca (April 23rd and 24th). The RTÉ Concert Orchestra presents a concert performance of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly (28th May).
  • The RTÉ Concert Orchestra schedule features a screening of Mise Éire (20th April), an evening with New Zealand soprano Hayley Westenra (11th June), ‘Sounds of the 60s’ (7th April), ‘Songs of the 1916 Widows’ (27th April), ‘And the Oscar Goes To…’ (19th May).
  • Popular concerts include New York jazz ensemble The Hot Sardines (8th June), Rebecca Storm (30th April), Brendan Shine and his Musicians – The 50th Anniversary Concert (19th June), Dave Hardy and The Blue Clavon Orchestra (14th May), An Evening with Rita Coolidge (11th May).
  • The RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra’s concert schedule sees a range of soloists perform: violinist Viviane Hagner (22nd April), violinist Alina Pogostkina and soprano Ailish Tynan (6th May), violinist Esther Yoo (27th May) and many more.
