Other Projects in the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme at the National Concert Hall

COMPOSING THE ISLAND - A century of music in Ireland, September 2016

Audiences will have a unique opportunity to encounter the music of Irish composers written between 1916–2016, during a three-week period in September 2016, performed at the National Concert Hall and broadcast on RTÉ lyric fm. Presented by Bord na Móna in association with RTÉ and the National Concert Hall, the festival will include six major orchestral concerts given by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and RTÉ Concert Orchestra and a further 20 concerts featuring choral, instrumental, song and chamber music given by a range of performers including the RTÉ Philharmonic Choir, RTÉ Cór na nÓg, the RTÉ ConTempo Quartet, Crash Ensemble, Chamber Choir Ireland, Vanbrugh Quartet, Concorde and The Fidelio Trio.
 

SONG FOR 16 - All-Island Song Competition for Schools with Walt Disney Music Group

Song for ‘16 is an all-island song competition which invites primary and post-primary students to write and perform a song celebrating the modern, multi-cultural Ireland of 2016.
Presented by the National Concert Hall, the Department of Education and Skills, and Disney Music Group it is the key outreach programme for 2016 encouraging students to engage with Song for ’16 is the National Concert Hall’s key outreach programme for 2016, encouraging students to engage with contemporary culture through a historical perspective, and to produce a hit song that celebrates what the island has become over the last 100 years. In a unique opportunity, the overall winning song will be published by Disney Music Publishing and released on Hollywood records.

NEW PROJECT WITH DUBLIN PORT June 2015

As part of the National 2016 Centenary Programme, Dublin Port and the National Concert Hall are partnering to produce a project which commissions a series of songs by some of Ireland’s leading contemporary song writers.  The project will see the songs recorded, released and premiered at a special multi-media concert at the National Concert Hall. The project is inspired by the centuries old commercial and cultural relationship between the river Liffey, the port and the city.

The Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme, led by Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys, T.D., is a year-long programme of activity to commemorate the events of the 1916 Rising, to reflect on our achievements over the last 100 years and to look towards Ireland’s future.
