     <title><![CDATA[Britain's Longest Established Orchestra, The Hallé, performs a sell out Concert at The National Concert Hall]]></title>
     <description><![CDATA[The Hallé, Britain's longest-established professional symphony orchestra, will perform on Saturday 6 March 2010 8pm at The National Concert Hall as part of The Sunday Business Post International Orchestral Series 2009/2010. Founded in Manchester by Sir Charles Hallé (1858), the orchestra have been performing at home and abroad for more than 150 years. Sir Mark Elder, who was knighted for services to music in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2008, became Music Director of the Hallé in 2000. Since then they have received increasing acclaim. Joining the great orchestra on stage will be renowned pianist Joanna MacGregor to perform Bach’s Concerto in D minor, BWV 1052.]]></description>

     <title><![CDATA[Cork Composer, Solfa Carlile, Wins National Concert Hall Composers Competition with ‘Sounds’ set to Brendan Kennelly poem]]></title>
     <description><![CDATA[Irish composer Solfa Carlile, originally from Cork, is the winner of this year’s Jerome Hynes Composers Competition, awarded by The National Concert Hall. With an entry for voice and piano entitled ‘Sounds’ set to the poem of the same name by Irish poet Brendan Kennelly, Solfa won top place in the competition. As well as securing a substantial cash prize of €1,500 Solfa will have her piece performed in recital by The National Concert Hall ‘Rising Star 2010’ mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught on March 1st 2010 at 8pm. Two highly commended composers were also chosen: Ryan Molloy from Belfast with his piece An Seilgeoir and Ayane Yamanaka from Dublin with her composition Blackbird.]]></description>

     <description><![CDATA[The National Concert Hall recorded attendances of 342,568 in 2009, up 5,048 (1.5%) on 2008, setting a new record for the venue. Average percentage capacities for 2009 were 77% at The National Concert Hall. The venue promoted 692 events during the year, 347 which were in the Main Auditorium of the Hall.  This was a significant increase on the previous year.]]></description>

     <description><![CDATA[Kamile Dirskute, age 11 from Co. Kildare is announced the winner of The National Concert Hall’s ‘Snowman Art Competition 2009’. With over up to 1,500 entries for the competition to choose from, Kamile’s painting entitled ‘Snowman’ is a portrait of the Snowman, painted using watercolours and crayon.  The special recognition award has been given to Sean Parnell age 11 from Tralee, Co. Kerry for his entry entitled “Winter’s Watching.’ The competition, run in conjunction with the Irish Daily Star Sunday, Dublin’s 98 and An Post, was established to encourage children around Ireland to tap into their imagination and demonstrate their creativity in bringing ‘ The Snowman’ to life in a painting or drawing. ]]></description>
