Górecki’s ‘Symphony of Sorrowful Songs’ astonished the world in a celebrated 1992 recording. A little-known Polish composer, writing music based on deeply religious texts in a style that does not have instant appeal – hardly the stuff to outsell Madonna and Britney! But it did: the recording not only topped the classical music charts but reached the Top 10 in the popular charts and remains the best-selling album of music by a contemporary composer ever. Acclaimed Irish soprano Orla Boylan leads us through this unforgettable score.
