Recognised as one of the greatest Irish Céilí Bands in the world, the Kilfenora Céilí Band makes a welcome return to The National Concert Hall on Tuesday 16th March 2010, 8pm. With music to set hearts racing and feet tapping the band will be joined by Irish dancer Michael Donnellan for an uplifting session of traditional Irish jigs, reels, polkas and more.

The world’s most celebrated Japanese Drum ensemble, KODO, return with a dynamic drumming extravaganza as part of their 2010 European One Earth Tour to the National Concert Hall on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 March, 8pm. They will also be giving a rare insight into the lives of Kodo in a specially devised family concert on Sunday 14 March at 1pm.

The Hallé, Britain's longest-established professional symphony orchestra, will perform on Saturday 6 March 2010 8pm at The National Concert Hall as part of The Sunday Business Post International Orchestral Series 2009/2010. Founded in Manchester by Sir Charles Hallé (1858), the orchestra have been performing at home and abroad for more than 150 years. Sir Mark Elder, who was knighted for services to music in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2008, became Music Director of the Hallé in 2000. Since then they have received increasing acclaim. Joining the great orchestra on stage will be renowned pianist Joanna MacGregor to perform Bach’s Concerto in D minor, BWV 1052.

Irish composer Solfa Carlile, originally from Cork, is the winner of this year’s Jerome Hynes Composers Competition, awarded by The National Concert Hall. With an entry for voice and piano entitled ‘Sounds’ set to the poem of the same name by Irish poet Brendan Kennelly, Solfa won top place in the competition. As well as securing a substantial cash prize of €1,500 Solfa will have her piece performed in recital by The National Concert Hall ‘Rising Star 2010’ mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught on March 1st 2010 at 8pm. Two highly commended composers were also chosen: Ryan Molloy from Belfast with his piece An Seilgeoir and Ayane Yamanaka from Dublin with her composition Blackbird.

The 2010 National Concert Hall Rising Star is one of Ireland's most gifted and critically acclaimed young operatic singers, Irish mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught, from Dundalk, Co. Louth. The prestigious Rising Star Award gives Tara the opportunity to perform a solo recital at Ireland's premier music venue for classical music, The National Concert Hall, on Monday 1 March 2010, 8pm. Accompanied by pianist Nicolai Krugel, Tara will enchant Irish audiences with a programme that ranges from original English Canzonettas by Joseph Hadyn to Giacomo Rossini's Non piu mesta from his opera La Cenerentola.

She’s the violinist that classical fans want most on their iPods. Nicknamed ‘Queen of the Download’, Dutch violinist Janine Jansen is iTune’s most prominent instrumentalist. Jansen will perform a solo recital on Thursday 11 March 2010, 8pm at The National Concert Hall where she will make her Irish Times Celebrity Concert Series 2009/2010 debut. She is joined by pianist Itamar Golan.

The National Concert Hall recorded attendances of 342,568 in 2009, up 5,048 (1.5%) on 2008, setting a new record for the venue. Average percentage capacities for 2009 were 77% at The National Concert Hall. The venue promoted 692 events during the year, 347 which were in the Main Auditorium of the Hall. This was a significant increase on the previous year.

Classical music superstar Lang Lang is set to thrill Irish audiences when he performs an eagerly awaited performance on Tuesday 2 February 2010, 8pm to The National Concert Hall as part of The Irish Times Celebrity Concert Series 2009/2010.

One of Ireland’s most successful musicians, Dubliner Finghin Collins will give his Irish Times Celebrity Concert Series 09/10 recital debut on Wednesday 27 January 2010 8pm at The National Concert Hall. Finghin joins international superstar pianists Lang Lang, Angela Hewitt, Ivo Pogorelich and virtuoso violinists Sarah Chang, Midori, Janine Jansen and others in the 2009/2010 International Concert Season at The National Concert Hall.
